Daytime Woods and Nighttime Barn - Tips?

Hey all,

I'll be shooting a short in the woods and in a barn in a couple weeks and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on things to do to pretty up the photography. It's a drama/thriller/suspense and takes place mostly in the woods during the day, then later in and around a barn at night during a rain storm. I thought for the woods I might get a fog machine and set that up to help break things up a bit and create some contrast, but would a fog machine really have enough output? Any other ideas for creating contrast and a pro-looking image?

For the rainstorm, I'm really not sure how to approach that to get the best effect. The most obvious solution is a garden hose with one of those typical gun-things (blanking on the name) on the end and shooting that up in the air over the talent. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!
- Tommy

A powerful haze machine would be better I think, the particles stay longer.

For rainstorm, I think a test shot is neccessary, this type of thing can easily look fake...

Thanks for the thoughts. What's the difference between a fog machine and a haze machine? I've never heard of the latter.
