Hey
I am trying to get a job with a reality tv show being a camera assistant or a production assistant. It would be 6 days a week, 10 or maybe more hours a day for 3 months. The PA rate is already established by the producers at 625 a week. But they said whoever got the 2 AC jobs would be paid more and could negotiate the rate. I have only done camera assistant once before for one day on a DV movie. However I do alot of camera work in many different areas. How much should I try to get per week? I dont want to start off too low. I live in VA if that makes a difference. Any help would be great because I will find out tonight if I got AC, PA, or nothing. Thanks

There is quite a bit of difference between the skill levels of a PA and an AC. Is this a film or video show? They might just have you changing out lenses and filters and slating shots, but they could also assume that you are close to a camera op, so if you don't have these skills, then you might be better off to go for the PA job (I have seen ACs double as loaders on smaller film projects). Better to be employed on the entire project than to get in over your head and end up having a one day AC job.

Hey
It will be shot on video. They described it as loading tapes, cleaning the lens, passing out release forms wherever we go, carrying equipment. That kind of thing. Believe me if it were shot on film I wouldnt even be trying for it, I would be trying PA. Any other thoughts? Thanks

If you have the time and can afford the rate, I would suggest that you offer to do the AC job for the PA rate. Lets face it, PA credits are a dime a dozen, but an AC credit will do your career much more good if that is a direction that you want to persue.

Hey
Thats interesting, I will see what they say when they call. I am hoping they make me an offer, but we will see. Thanks for the help
