You want to make sure you are shooting on a cloud covered day with very little shadow in order to pull it off. The best day for night I have seen was in a film called Black Robe. Remember to shoot a couple of stops underexposed (experiment with this) and then apply a bluish tint in the mids and highlights. Black Robe seemed to also use a bit of green to the mids and shadows as well which to my eye looked more realistic.
I would suggest that you shoot on a sunny day with shadows, and underexpose by a couple of stops. If you don't have any shadows the shot will look very flat and just look under exposed. When shooting on film we would remove the 85 filter (or use an 81ef) this allows the shot to have an overall blue effect.
You can also place frost paper over windows and point tungsten lights (inside rooms) pointing directly at the frost paper
