Davinci color correction for 100b music video?

Pardon the question...

Is there an advantage (or significant one) to color correcting a music video shot on the 100b with a Davinci as opposed to using FCP's built-in correctors?

And what if the music video was shot for no money (worth spending many times the budget to color correct)?

I've had the great priviledge of working with some of the most well-know and highest-paid colorists in LA, and I can attest to two facts:

1) There is nothing, litterally nothing that you can do in a Da Vinci that you can't do in After Effects. You'll be doing is more slowly in After Effects is all.

2) The sessions I've had with these top colorists have been amazing experiences, worth every penny (of someone else's money!).

1 + 2 = what you're paying for is the colorist's eye. Yes, it's "just color." And notes are just notes, but sit me down at a Steinway and you'll find out just how much pain notes can cause!

Still, this awesome thing that colorists do should be a part of anyone's digital filmmaking process, regardless of the budget. That's why I designed Colorista, why I created Rebel CC and gave it away for those who couldn't afford Colorista, and why I devoted an entire chapter to color in The Guide.

Good thread. The other post there about the miniDV commercial was also helpful. I didn't know if mini-DV had enough information or was high quality enough to taken advantage of something like a Davinci.

I also wasn't sure whether it's worth spending multiples of 250-500/hr on cc'ing when the video budget was a few hundred and the crew pay was zero. Not my video, btw.

Absolutely anything can be run through a DaVinci though most likely they will dump your DV tape to DigiBeta first.

Well, many times zero = zero. So go ahead and spend as many times the budget as you like!

Totally- if you look at *many* music videos you'll see it's the color correction that really makes them pop. I mean how much booty shaking and handheld concert footage do you really need to see?
