Man, I have been excited to see this one for a while. It's been getting hyped for quite some time and I was really happy with the trailer. A nice documentary for Gondry to take: the reuniting of the Fugees, Chappelle: post-crazy, even though this was shot before he went to Africa I think. I love him -- Chappelle, and I've always dug what he says.

It won't have the signature in-camera tricks that Gondry is so known for now, but as far as concert movies go I'm betting it will be top notch.

i hope you're being sarcastic on Chappelle's 'post-crazy' comment. the guy is perfectly fine, the only reason he left his show was because it wasn't his thing anymore, everyone working on it was controlling him and the show, so he wanted to take a step back from it all.

anyways, the movie looks like fun. i wouldn't mind watching it.

haha, yes I was being sarcastic. But what I mean is, because of this popular grocery store public opinion of him, this movie is coming at the perfect time. I guess what I mean is that this will sort of prove to everyone that he isn't crazy.

And if a millions of white meatheads were quoting my comedy while doing their keg stands, I might up and go to Africa as well.

LOL.

I'll miss his show.

This movie looks fun. A friend saw a WIP at the TIFF and said it was great.

I'm real excited to see this. Gondry did an interview in the latest issue of Moviemaker. It was pretty interesting. This film won't have any of his visual trademarks from the sound of it, though.

I think Chappelle did the right thing. Comedy Central tried to do to him what executives do with every hit comedy show like his. Take control and ruin it. I think his appearance on Oprah and the hopeful success of this film will give him the leverage to come back and do the show his way. So far, he's playing the game very well. I'm proud of him.

Actually i got the sense from his Lipton interview that it wasn't Corporate that ruined the Chappelle Show. It seemed for once he had creative license over his own content. And they were paying him Millions upon Millions to do pretty much what he wanted to.

I got the sense from Chappelle retelling the stories that it was the "white meathead" element in every college in america. He got the impression these people were laughing at his stuff "For the wrong reason." Although this isn't the only reason. He attributed alot of his leaving to the massive pressure he felt to deliver on the next season. Having never been in a situation with that much hype around it i hardly think I'm in a position to criticize that decision.

Still I miss his show.

I miss that show too.

I caught that Lipton interview. It just seems like he went off the deep end...
Fame and fortune ruined him.

Shame because he has talent.

I wouldn't call him "ruined" by any means. If anything, leaving and "going against the man" like he has, will make him more popular with audiences.

He's the man, and it's not like he woke up and wasn't funny anymore. He just woke up, and didn't want to be funny for a while -- which I think I can understand.

But you're right Mojo -- no tricks. Just straightforward, which I think I will love. And besides... with Science of Sleep (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0354899/) floating around soon, and Master of Space and Time (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0412978/) on its way, I think we have enough of that to look forward to! I cannot wait for those guys...

And I didn't realize Science of Sleep was finished! Should be coming some time this year!

I also caught the Interview on the Actors Studio and definitely hasn't lost his comedic ability because he had me laughing on the show. I really think he's very down to earth and is speaking out against the way hollywood works.

I will have to catch the Lipton interview. I haven't seen it. I can empathize with the "meathead" theory though. I had a few friends speak to me in a far too "familiar" way after seeing too much Chappelle show. had to set them straight quickly.

That's just the 6 episodes of skits he finished before quitting.

Just skits. No intros or anything else. And unless Dave changes his mind that'll be the end of it.

I think it's going to be hilarious, but also meaningful.
Anyone reading this should catch the Bravo "Inside the Actors' Studio: Dave Chappelle" for a funny but interesting story on Dave Chappelle. (In which he explains his trip to Africa)

When he was on Oprah, he kinda explained it like this..........

He meant for the show to be funny in a sattire form of humor but he said instead of people laughing at the skits for the sattire, he felt like he was entertaining the white man at the expense of the black man's image.

For instance, instead of a white guy laughing at a skit for the sattire of it, he'd be laughing and thinking, "Yeah, black people are stupid."

Dave said he felt bad and irresponsible for exploiting stereotypes of races but the african race inparticular.......

I can understand that, most people don't look past the topical surface of entertainment to find that there is truly a good, virtuos meaning underneath.

Since we're talking about Dave.

I saw this a while back and thought it was brilliant.

I would love it if there a "secret cabal of powerful African-American leaders". Everyone else has their secret societies running the world behind closed doors. So why not black folk too!?

That site was created to promote a short film done by Chappelle Show co-creator Neal Brennan and Charlie Murphy.

I've never been able to find the short film but i very much want to see it. I'm sure it's hilarious.

If anyone missed the Actor's Studio with Chappelle, you can get the whole thing for $2 on iTunes now.
