Datamoshing? How to achieve this effect

I've just recently learned about the term datamoshing. And I'm coming up short when searching for tutorials, all I find are references to ffmpeg and avidemux. Is there a way to achieve a similar effect as featured in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvqakws0CeU&feature=related

This video explains the concept (in an incredibly long way): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYytVzbPky8 But it isn't relevant to Premiere/After Effects.

I don't care the method, just interested in experimenting with the technique.

I don't think Premiere or AE has this sort of 'filter'... it is based on breaking the codec and artifacts that occure if highly compressed material is 'smashed' together.

The reason why ffmpeg and avidmux are mentioned, is because these tools are part of the open source software set, and so, because the source is available many things can be done with them that can't be done with commercial closed sourse tools.

ffmpeg is an open source codec processor library and tool set. Avidmux is a simplistic video editor.

That was an interesting find thanks for posting it.

If you watch all 3 videos he does tell you how to do it. About Premiere and After Effects, you build the clips individually and then splice them back together in ffmpeg, getting the datamosh effect. Then you have your datamoshed clip that you can bring back into your nle for final editing/retouching if you need it.
