Hey guys. So my hard drive decided it would be a good idea to delete 2 freelance jobs I was working on (yes I was dumb not to back up). Bad part is that I put about 60 hours into each edit, and was finished, ready to export today when

I realized it was all gone. I don't care about the video files, I just want my premiere pro project files (since my friend has all the footage as well). I tired using hard drive recovery software, since even though the files and folders are

missing my harddrive still says that space is being taken up, and FOURTEEN hours later, I got a lot of stuff back... But no project files. At least none that were obviously project files, I got a lot of weird .gz .XML and .chk files. Weirdest

part is that some of those would open up old premiere projects if I just changed the extension to .prproj... But most just give a generic error. ANYWAY, I still feel like they are hidden somewhere in this drive and I was wondering if anyone

has ANY suggestions or could help in any way... I'm going mad over here. Thanks!

Damn!

You might need to send it off for recovery if you can't recover with available software solutions.

It sucks, but it is also a good lesson.

Always do a nightly backup!

@Scorsesefan, I actually am using Premiere CC... please tell me you know something I don't! Like a hidden file! haha, fingers crossed!

My PP project files are automatically saved to the cloud. I can't recall if I had to set this up or not... In any case they are in my finder>favorites>creative cloud files (I'm on mac)

 I will have to check! I am 80% sure I've seen that you have to set that up...but if not then you are a lifesaver!

Ah crap. Sorry to hear it. You might want to turn on this function in the future. It has actually saved me a couple of times...
Well, I am not home right now, I use a PC at home and a MacBook of the go. So I just checked on my MacBook, and it says I have the sync feature turned on (by default I guess), however when I check the creative cloud files folder it has nothing in it, so I don't understand why. Hopefully it is turned on in my PC, and those files are actually safe and sound!

What recovery software did you try? Some of the software like Data Rescue, you give it file types to learn. So you would drop a couple of other premiere files on the software, then it will look for that type of file also. I lost a tax file and used another software called "Disk Drill" and it found the file since it recognizes the file type. I just checked the site and it show ".PRPROJ" file types. These are both Mac software. I think both of these have free versions that will do the scan and then if they find the file you could pay to recover it.
