Data Rate for capture

I'm using a Lacie 500GB and capturing with my dual 2.0 into FCP. I was just wondering if the data rate for the capture really changes quality. All the clips we have c apture at a 2.9 data rate, but I've read that the max is 3.6. Is this rue? Will the lower data rate change anything? I'm looking for the highest possible image quailty.

It won't change the quality since it's all digitial but if a system is too slow you could be dropping frames or end up with long frames. There a menu item to check for long frames in a capture.
