DAT question

can anyone link me up with a place to purchase a DAT recorder. B&H seems to be cleaned out and do not list that TASCAM DA P 1 anymore...I found another place saying it was no longer stocking that model anymore..I thought that was sort of a standard...are those DATMAN type recorders up to snuff for real dialogue recording?

I know the shift is to minidisc..I was just really hoping to get a decent and reasonably priced DAT.

Thanks.

Re: DAT question

forget the dat , look for non tc tapless recorders , fostex fr-2 or sounddevices 722 , better quality with out naintans,
for cheap solution s d mixpre or 302 with nomad jb-3 or iriver

Re: DAT question

Which one do you recommend Oleg? Between the fostex or sounddevices? I was looking at getting a DAT but I'm thinking of going that route and would like your recommendation.

Re: DAT question

On the budget side, go with the Marantz PMD670. If you want more bells and whistles, get the Sound Devices 722. I would recommend a smaller shop like close to where you are located as opposed to buying from B&H. They don't give any support. Some good places across the country are (going east to west coast) Gotham Sound (NYC), Trew Audio (Nashville), Coffey Sound (LA), and Location Sound Corp (LA). Any one of those will give you good service and a good price.
