Sweet! Great job Rich! You got "IT"

What did you use for shooting this...including the timelapse?

I like the video, but I'm not digging the singer's performance. I was hoping he'd have more...emo? Emotion? My only beef is his emotionless lipsinging. The video is tip top though.

great work, rich lee. i've always enjoyed your style, partly because of its high degree of visual interest (all of that moving stuff in the background is fresh) and especially your tasteful use of special effects. i have to say i liked this one even more than the buckfest video... which was awesome in itself. anyways, keep up the good work! (guess we'll see you on the MTV awards soon!?)

Say what? A new video by Rich Lee?! Dude, awesome!

Great job, the video looks sweet. The music is not very compelling, but it's great. Somewhat I think the camera shakes all the time are quite disturbing. And they seem computer generated to me. I'd go for less handheld shots if I could.

Nonetheless it looks awesome, congratulations!

PS: Did you shoot this in S16? If so what neg? Tell us more about the post, c'mon!

great. I love dashboard confessional, tho this song wasn't my favorite of his. good job

can you maybe explain how you did the effect with the actor walking and everything moving fast around him. I mean I know its been done before...and most people say just have hte actor was very slow and then speed it up.

Well I've tried that and found it very very hard to make a smooth walking motion when walking slow motion...also that would mess up the lip sync, so how was that handled. Was it all compositing?

I'll be that guy, I have been following these guys since the beginning...they have came a long way. Though I like their old, more acoustic stuff, better this was good. Video though, great.

Nice job Rich.

thanks guys...

you cant tell from the compression on the aol site...but the image quality is really nice...the compression kills it. when i can, i will post some hi rez stills.

we shot for 2 days in la. one day in topanga canyon and another day downtown. whats cool was the location of the field was right near a house with big bay windows...which looked alot like an nyc apartment. so we got lucky. we droped a greenscreen in front of it and replaced it later with stills i took in NYC. we had a full crew...bad ass dp named Jo Willems. shot on 35.

the people moving around him are cg. the reason for it is because i wanted his motion to be normal and shooting 2 passes with motion control is extremly time consuming and expensive...and i wanted it to be hand held. so we shot everything hand held on a dolly and then tracked the shots later in post.

im kinda still recovering from the post process...it was really draining...the shoot went really well. such a great experience.

Wow! Awesome Video! How did you do the timeplase of the sunlight while he was still sitting on the bed? great job- looking forward to those stills.

thanks man.

we had a big crane outside the windows with a big light that simulated the sun. during each take we would have some grips move it slowly along a track....giving us those cool sweepeing shadows. it was fun.

its supposed to be on MTV soon...i will keep you posted.

Woke up this morning with the song stuck in my head. It's a great video Rich. Visually gorgeous and the video really felt like New York, which is no small feat. I'd like to see a bigger file soon.

Great video, Rich, as always. Loved the slow-mo handheld shots of the the singer in the streets

The bit near the end reminded me Time Machine from 2002.

hey thanks guys...i think i have to wait a bit before i can upload a nicer version...i will find out.

PK- thanks man...this was a directing gig.

Rich, what program do you use for the people running by?

Were ALL the people cg? Even the ones getting in/out of the cab etc?

Tim.

Awesome. Some of the street shots with the CG people are really stunning. And some of the more simple shots are great too. The hand held building at the start....nice.

I'd love to hear more about the effects shots. The crumbling city...the street walk CG people. Some really clean work. Was the post effects all you? Did you work with a team? Was it a flame or a home suite? Really curious about that kind of stuff...

And again. Great images. Nice job dude. congrats.
