darker look in DVX

I am going to be shooting a zombie movie in July, and I want the overall feel of the film to be dark. I have seen clips of peoples work here, and am curious how I could achieve a darker feel by using darker colors, maybe a tiny bit grainy and more on the green side ( can be in PP). I ordered my DVX last week so the only reason im asking is because I dont have my hands on it yet. Thanks

Well gell your lights with reduction filters so they are there but not so bright. Try shooting with you nd's on even inside. But try to keep your iris open. and then in post crush your blacks and just bring down your leavels alittle CC will go along way. Just experiment till you get the look you want. Just remember you can always darken down an image in taking light away. But it is very hard to lighten one up and keep it looking right. So some light is better then none.

thanks man. I appreciate the input. I want it to look like a dark zombie movie. Like Dawn of the Dead. Alot of zombie movies ive seen online lately look like crap because all the color and lighting is to vivid and bright. check out this link for an example of what im looking for.

C&P into the address bar. I want the overall film to be like that. I think camera settings are going to be what get that for me for the most part (next to lighting)

For camera settings, you'll probably want to lower your master pedestal significantly -- probably -10 at the least, maybe more. You can get a slight green tint by adjusting chroma phase. You can get more of a green tint by white-balancing through a mild magenta gel, like a 1/4 MinusGreen.
