darkening a overlit scene nigh

I am shooting a scene in a location i have no control over.

Unfortunately I can not darken it to the levels I want. Plus shooting with the hvx200 i deal with the noise and artifact issues. So now i have a scene that needs to look more onimous then the more lit scene.

Is there a way to darken the area around my character. she is standing in front of a white wall. What method would you use to darken a scene to resemble night around her. I just want certain parts of the rooms to look naturaly dark

thanks

Capturing professional looking images with available light isn't terribly realistic. Lighting is 90% of what makes a good image. A well lit set/actor will look good even shot with the wrong exposure or a low quality camera. Crappy lighting will make a set/actor look bad even with the most expensive camera. I have seen locations that look like nothing, but with great lighting look completely mind blowing.

PIMP--

Can you ADD light to the scene? If so, then use an ND filter to bring the ambient light way down, down. Bring the iris down as much as you have to. Then put MORE light, right where you want it. With experimentation, you can make everything look as dark as you want to, while still seeing your subject. Your viewfinder will tell you when you've got it right. That's all I can think of to do in your situation. Hope it works out!

Cheers,
Mike
