Darken parts of a clip

Is there a way to burn in parts of a clip? I have some items in the background of a shot I would like to darken. Is there a way to do this similar to how you would use the burn tool in photoshop?

thanks

I know you can tint video or even add a color tint. You may have to use a Matte and select a color then play around with the opacity to lighten or darken the matte color. You can use the image/wireframe and reduce the scale of the matte or distort tool to do the same thing. Now you may have to keyframe it so it keeps up if this is to be used for motion video.

You can export the segment as individual frames, edit in Photoshop, and re-assemble in the timeline-- lotsa work! If you go this route, I would suggest using a Photoshop tool such as 'levels' or 'curves' (if possible) using the identical application to each frame and carefully adjusting your selection area in each frame to keep a consistent look in the finished product.

or if you have magic bullet for editors or for after effects, they have this vignetting effect, it darkens each corner like old film, looks very nice, u can also adjust the darkness to yur likings..im not sure if any other cheap effects can do this...try some stuff, i have no clue..
