Dark Water, crock of ****.

Just saw Dark Water tonite. What a heap of dogshit. I came in 10 minutes late, but it didn't start for well over an hour. I'm literally speechless as to how stupid this film was. I believe it's the same writer from the Ring. Boy could you tell. It wasn't much different. Millions of dollars are being spent making/marketing horseshit. I'm not even going to waste time on a decent review, so here you go: If you have an abundance of time and money to waste, then this is the movie for you.

the writer has a fetish for having dark haired girls die in watery graves. Why that is the staple for Japanese Horror, is beyond me. That said, it was a good looking film, and of course the acting was good. It's just sort of like getting Tom Hanks to act in your soap commercial because you had nothing better to sell.

(or because you knew you were going up against the fantastic four of personal hygiene products, not that I've seen it, but I think you can just tell crappy movies from afar sometimes.)

Slimothy - the trailer tried to warn you. It said from the author of THE RING. That should have been a dead give away that you were flushing your money.......
but I do love me some Jennifer Connelly.....

Well, I can tell you that the dark haired girls thing is because Japanese women have black hair (Dark Water and the Ring, of course, originally Japanese films). There's nothing significant about the dark hair. Everyone seems to be hung about up this like there's supposed to be something special, when it's just really how Japanese women look.

As for water, I'm not really sure about the significance of water in Dark Water (or other Japanese horror movies), but it is a common symbol in other movies. If it has anything to do with how water is used to purify the soul in Japanese mythology or Shinto, then I guess it would make more sense to the Japanese viewer than the American viewer.

EDIT:

Yes, I do realize you're talking about the American remake, but it still pretty much applies. They didn't really change the design much from the Japanese version.

I haven't seen this movie, but John's comment made me chuckle. I needed that, so Thanks.

It's why I am so pumped on The Devil's Reject's (and the recent watching of House of a 1000 Corpses); legitimate RATER R Horror Films.

Don't they make any films with balls anymore? Films with substance? (Not implying the above two films are chock full of substance) Films that are considered heavy.

Damn. Always having to cater towards White Bread America.

Can't we have films that are geared for the adult audience? Thought provoking? Controversial? Ground Breaking?

Bwhaha! That's funny when you look at it that way.

LMAO!

Thats the best first post I have ever seen. You'll fit in fine around here. :cheesy:

I've been telling all my friends how awesome Dark Water was. Some of them are going to go see it tonight. Lol. I'm getting them back for when they tried to get me to watch Kung Pao real late at night by edifying it for about an hour. I almost watched the whold damn thing before I shut it off, and they were lauging their asses off.

i haven't seen it yet, but i've only seen and heard bad reviews. and that's really dissapointing cause i thought Walter Salles was gonna be big. i loved his Central do brasil & Motercycle diaries.

hope his next movie will be more like those

I seen the movie when it came out and I must see it should be called a Comedy-Horro Flick because the audience couldn't stop laughing at certain scenes that were intended to be spooky.........

Review?? None needed, someone should just post audio of the crowds reaction when the movie goes off and I thought it was halloween with all the "Boo's" I heard.........

I can't believe I wasted 18$ (took my girl) on this when we could've waited 15 more minutes and seen Fantastic Four.......

I just saw this movie. I decided to see it alone. Anyhow, I thought this movie was just way too slow. I wanted to give this movie a chance but in the end it was just like every other average moive I've seen. It's the same **** over and over again. I need to start seeing something really scary. The last movie that sort of tickled me was the sixth sense. Don't get me wrong, it was not a bad movie. Then again I would not watch it again. If I do watch this movie again I will bring a date and I'll watch her instead. My word description for this movie "SLOW".

I prob wont see this movie, but I wanted to commend Slimothy on the great visual his title gave me:

"Dark Water, crock of ****"

I suppose a crock of that would indeed be dark water, but I prefer chuck roast and potatoes in mine.

dark water was very dissapointing. It wasn't scary, it was a little too slow for me. Jennifer did a good job acting. I don't think this movie belongs in the jap horror genre, it was pretty lame.
