It's billed as being "from the makers of Insidious". I loved Insidious. It was creepy and scary while not being bloody or gross and only rated PG 13. IMO, it takes a lot of talent to scare and audience with one hand tied behind your back in a PG13 rating.
So the Director isn't the same director from Insidious, and this movie wasn't as scary as Insidious but it was entertaining and definitely had some creepy and scary moments.
I thought the pacing was a bit slow, but it worked well to build the tension and creepiness.
I'm not a big fan of the Alien abduction genre films so I went in with low expectations. I didn't love it, but wasn't bored and did jump at a few scenes so it was a fun ride overall. I thought the director did a great job, most of the actors were really good especially Kerri Russel, but the script was just a B- or C+.
Is this the current trend in horror? PG13 horror films to get the teen dollars? There were a lot of teens at the screening I saw and they did seem to be having a lot of fun being scared. One scene was very obviously PG13. The kids bring some pot into an abandoned house, lay it on the table and say let's smoke up or something like that, and then cut, we never see anyone smoke anything because it's against the rules in a PG13 movie.
Where are the good Rated R horror films like Friday the 13th?
