Dark footage needs fixin'

OK, I have PPro 1.5 and I need to fix some dark available light stuff I shot rather quickly. There are a host of nice looking filters and adjustments available under adjust, but they all seem to be noisy and make the colors look worse.

I forgot the specific name of the filter, but I thinks it's Levels, and I had to use a light Median filter to smooth-out the grainy mess.

To compound things, the available street lights were those yellow-orange sodium vapor style so now I have 3 problems: dark contrasty, color cast, and grainy when I adjust the Levels to be able to see the actors.

Any help would be appreciated as soon as you can.

Thanks!

Note to self... get a damn light kit!

I think you've done the best you can. Increasing levels right before grain becomes apparent, and doing color temp shifts. There's a million and one ways to do that in premier.

Underexposed pictures are always grainy and color shifted. Use levels to bring the brightness up, then use HSL offset to color correct.

Next time, turn up the gain and open the iris to wide open. Some fill light would probably help open up the actors' faces.

KingVidiot, if you want to bring dark unusable clips back from the dead and make them usable, try the Shadow/Highlight.

i love the shadow and highlight filter on individual frames, although the grain goes up slightly i think that is the best way to bring out blacks however premiere pro is funky int eh way the filter is applied there seems to be some sort of strobing effects like the effects is a little randomly applied to certain frames so when this filter is applied to actual video i dont see it being usable.
