Damaged shotgun mic

Hi
I'm looking for a cheap shotgun mic to use with Tascam DR60 (EDIT: I forgot to mention mic will be used on a boom). I found a guy who is selling sennheiser me66 with k6 battery capsule for 175$, only thing is that mic is damaged on top. How does lack of this thing affects recording? Should i be worried? He said that it sounds good but i don't think he has comparison. Picture below shows how it looks exactly. It seems like a good deal so should i risk it? Or maybe there is other good option for around 200$ mic that will be used to record indoor and outdoor? (Rode NTG-2?)
Thank you for your help and sorry for my english :)

I would stay away from it, unless you can get another end cap from Sennheiser and the interference tube's threads are not damaged. There are other shotguns available in that price range. For instance, the Audio Technica AT875R is a highly regarded mic in that price range (it's Phantom Powered though and not modular if that makes a difference). The Rode NTG-2 has a low output level which can create noise on many of those budget recorders.
PS- your English is perfect Nico, at least in the original post.

The NTG-1 / NTG-2 might have been OK ten years ago..... but they are NOT good (even for a low price they still are NOT good) and by the way I have 2 of them.... and use them in high risk situations like on motor racing telecasts..... Hopefully one day they be hit by something so they can be replaced with something better.

I agree the NTG1/2 are pretty average sounding mic's and OK for effects capture but I too use the AT875R as my stock short shotgun mic.
