Damaged DVX100a

About a month ago I was filming and the cameras aluminum screw-in mounting piece cracked in half and the camera dropped about 6 feet to the pavement. Anyway, the damage was minimal, lens and recording heads are fine and the camera is fully functional, but the camera does have 2 cracks in it. One at the very bottom underneath/next to the head phone input at the back, and one up around the outside casing where the eye piece rests.

I took the camera to this place to get it assessed and we asked for a quick assessment, the guy said around $400-$500. Today I got a call saying it was actually going to cost $1500 because he has to order the parts from japan, which I can't afford. After hearing that I lost a bit of trust in this guy because it sounds like a bait and switch. What I'm asking is does this sounds like a right assessment to anyone that has a similar problem and does anyone know a place in Vancouver that would charge a reasonable amount for the repairs... also would it be possible to repair the camera using parts from a completely dysfunctional camera?

My DVX100 had a cracked mount and it was covered by warranty as Panasonic admitted the mount was a problem. Damage was done to tha camera inside by little pieces of broken mount. I took it to Commercial electronics on Burrard. They aren't the fastest monkeys in the jungle but they got the job done. Also had it in for lcd failure, warranty again and a shifted lense from a fall, both repaired for nothing.
