Gave my new dual-core Athlon X2 (4400+) a workout for the first time, rendering 18:04:21 worth of DV to MPEG-2 (DVD Architect 24p Widescreen template). Some light effects, nothing too heavy . . .

It did it in 11:52.

0.66 of real time.

Just to be CLEAR (and I hope it was) . . . that's 18 minutes, 4 seconds, 21 frames, rendered in 11 minutes, 52 seconds.

Don't want anyone to think I did 18 hours of video in 12 minutes.

So is dual core the same as dual processor? Think this is better than Intel's hyper threading solution?

I've got an AMD46 3500+ (maybe it's 3200+, not sure) ... but I don't think it's dual core. In hind site, that 64 bit process does me nearly ZERO additional good, as I don't have a 64 bit platform, or 64 bit software to take advantage of it.

A dual core processor has two actual processors on one chip.

Hyperthreading is not the same. It's only a single processor, but it has software-esque tweaks to improve performance (at some things).

So I can see where it sounds like dual core will have an advantage over hyper threading, because it's a hardware advantage vs. just a software advantage.

However, which would be better: Dual Core Processor or Dual Processors?

Just a matter of "Six and One Half Dozen Of The Other"?

Theoretically, a dual-core processor is the same as dual processor.

Where you really get a kick in the pants is when you have dual-dual core . . .

Intel dual-core processors are also hyperthreaded, so a dual-core Intel processor shows up as having four processors in the computer.

So I wonder how much it would cost for a (& what kind of smokin' performance would come from it) Dual Core, Dual Processor MOBO with HT?

I removed it because I had seconds thoughts as to whether it was correct. Better to check and repost later.

Ooooh, nice use of restraint. It'd be nice if everyone used that ability of fact finding before they post comments ... ahem, referring to another thread I've seen recently. :)

That sounds like a beastly computer....

2 Gigs of RAM is like...rape in my book....but apple's 8 gig of RAM capable computers is just.....over doin it...but still beast.

dual core processing....bizzeast

Dave..wanna get me one for my Bday? its in February....you would be on my #1 list of favorite ppl in the world.
