D800 press release

Supposing this BTS video was shot on Nikon D800, this is the best real world results sample video I have seen to date.

Looks very D7000-ish.

Very unforgiving in the shadows, and white skin tends to easily get burnt. (but this is true of all first gen dslr video results when shot in uncontrolled situations.) If you like the D7000 (yes, I am talking to you MacGregor), then getting that on an FX sensor is a good thing.

Where did they say this was shot with the 800? Because its a pretty bad example for them to promote the camera. I sees big difference in highlight handling from this and the joyride daylight shots.

Many shooters over expose during the day outdoors because they are exposing off the LCD, which is competing with sunlight.

Absolutely. Looks like it was lit for photography, where the cameras high bit rate processing in stills can handle the lighting, whereas it looks crappy in the high contrast blurry compressed video mode.

The video is horrible.

I disagree. It's not a bad indicator of what the D800 can do... nothing looks over or under exposed and the camera holds up nicely. I don't see any of that mushy bluey chroma noise in the shadows we'd get on the canons.

Although I don't agree with the edit choices like enabling blurry frame blending slow-mo, or shooting at 30 fps.

...shows where the photographer lacks when lighting for dslr video. Looks like a cheesy band video. D800 is doing alright by DSLR standards.

EDIT: I tend to like videos that push the limits of the camera a little, and this music video did that. The lighting was a bit harsh for dslr video. So, in the sense that as a prospective buyer I want to see the camera pushed or in a variety of conditions, this video+bts video was a success for me. But it is a subpar music video - imho.

I said, 'supposing this BTS video was shot on Nikon D800'. Did not intend for you to think I was stating fact.

I found the Joy Ride BTS also d7000-ish looking. A side by side comparison, will most likely show some differences. This is an initial impression I get from the web videos.
