d80 clunk noise

I just bought a new nikon d80 as a christmas gift for someone, and after purchasing it I took it out of the box to make sure the serial number matched what was on the box. I noticed that when I tilted the camera it made a slight clunking sound. If it was my camera I'd put a lens on and try it out. But I don't want to break it in too much ;) Is this noise normal? Similar to the notorious dvx "clunk" or should I exchange for another? Thanks for the help.

I have not noticed that on the D80's I have used, nor have I seen it / heard it on my D50 or D200.

Return it, sounds like an issue with the mirror lock up

This may be completely unrelated... but it's an idea. When I first got my Rebel XT, I noticed a similar noise. It was a little unsettling to hear something move when I tilted the camera. After some searching, I found out that moving part was letting the camera know whether it was being held in portrait or landscape... so it would display correctly when you viewed your photos.

ya i think CR_OPSO is right, its probably the noise from that sensor. I've heard complaints like this before and thats always the answer that comes out of it.

I'm a bit late responding but my D80 makes no sound when I tilt it. If the sound is comparable to the DVX100 'clunk', I would definitely return it.
