It's kinda cool, but way overpriced considering you could get a laptop and DVRack for under the same price and wind up with more horsepower, storage and potential battery life.

Still, it's a step in the right direction.

I wonder what the physical dimensions of the internal hard drive is and if you can swap it out for something much bigger because as it stands 20 Gigs (minus the space needed for the operating system and program files) doesnt leave space for even a hour of footage. Not practical.

USB 1.1, 802.11b, 256Megs RAM...$2,000.

It's like they've carefully designed this products to maximize failure in the marketplace. Don't get me wrong, the size is way cool, but it's grossly underpowered. I can't imagine that it's running a full install of windows XP Pro with a 1gHz crusoe processor and 256megs of RAM...that's really scraping the bottom of XP's requirements.

Anyway, back to the original subject, I don't think this device would really even work with realtime DV capture. The Harddrive isn't likely to be too fast, and there isn't any RAM to spare once XP loads, so there isn't any flexability within the hardware to allow for the bandwidth. If there was an option for a PC card on a seperate bus, then you might be able to use it with a external firewire drive, but it doesn't have any spec listed for card slots...maybe it's just an omission.

However, the specs list battery life as three hours depending on usage...??

I donno, it just doesn't seem like this product will have a lot of takers beyond the geek crowd. I could be totally wrong though, I often am proven to be such.

Yeah, I'll stick with DV Rack. I have more options this way.
