Building a cyc wall, about to lay down masonite. Any experience here: should I lay it shiny side up, or textured side up?
thanks.

While never having built a cyc... in general I'd say matte finish would be preferred. The 'shinniness' would lend to odd bright bands depending on lighting.

Cleaning will be difficult with the textured side. That rough texture will grab onto every bit of dust and dirt and not let go. Unless you plan on putting a skim coat of plaster on the entire surface, that will be a mess.

You'll have to lay shiny side up and paint it. The texture side should be face down. Although I do not recommend using masonite as a seamless cyc. there will be screws that render it non-seamless, plus masonite has a bit of bounce to it. It also tends to dent easily. If you try to coat it with plaster the plaster will most likely crack when the masonite flexes when people are on it.
It'll work in a pinch, but honestly it's better suited to skateboard ramps than cycs.
Hope this helps.
