Cutting HD footage in SD

I knew switching my cameras to HD would mean editing would take longer than NTSC. However I've read some tutorials and there were some quick mentions of cutting your footage in SD and referencing your HD footage using the media manager on output. I'd like to find more info on how to do this but haven't come across anything in depth. Does anyone else have any reference material that pertains to this type of editing? And/or what are the pros and cons to this workflow? Sounds like if you have a large project in HD, this would speed things along.

It's doable but footage from most prosumer cameras is so close to DV in terms of data rate and system overhead there's so little benefit in bothering. Plus it means you have to do everything twice. The preferred workflow is edit your native codec in HD, then you downconverts to SD DVD or tape or whatever as needed. Start with the HD as your master and there's really little or no need to go to an 'offline' format. *unless* you are working with major hardcore footage- like 2K uncompressed. Then a downconverted offline approach is a lot more sensible.
