Cutting Clips from Master Source Then Renaming IndClip Renames Everything

I'm cutting out parts from 2 hours of footage and when I rename the clips individually it renames every single clip I've cut and put into a bin, including the master clip. I've tried renaming the clip notes and that also renames everything. Any tips/advice? Thanks.

Try dragging the cut clip from the timeline into a bin. It creates a new master clip that you should be able to rename till your heart's content. You may have to drag it back onto the timeline to reflect the name change on the timeline too.

I've tried dragging it into the bin and renaming it then, it still renames the original master clip and any other file I've cut from the main source.

When I drag on the timeline and rename it there it does the same.

I've tried opening a new project and copy/pasting the footage I want and renaming it there, but it renames all the ones in the new project each time I try to change the name.

There has to be a simple answer to this.
