Cutting a frame

Hahha... let me start off by apologizing for not even knowing how to call what I am trying to do... :)

I want to cut a frame with some sort of drawing tool like you would in Photoshop, and then I want to grab that portion of the frame (a small square would do) and place it on top of an other clip...

...this is to hide a small lens flare by covering it with an other portion of the dark night sky, and also to learn how to cut portion s of a clip off to do funky later on.

I was under the impression that the Pan/Crop window had a tool that could do such a thing

hahaha... are you on your 110th avatar? hahaha... Wimbledon, play tennis?
Edit: there it is... the pen (s?)... anyway I cut the flare out for practice and it was easy to follow it and modify the selection... very cool!

::Adding one more beer to your IOU::

now is there a way to soften the edge of the selection so my dark sky circle will blend into the sky I am placing it on top of?

Yeah when you make the circle there should be the options on the left to feather it in out or both.

Thank you so much Blackhawk! I am looking through the options and playing with them but I can't seem to find out exactly how they work, and I am having some serious trouble with the two basic options that I need to figure out for this particular shot...

I am having a hard time figuring out how to feather it... I allready set it all the way up to 50% and set it to feather both inwards and outwards but I see no difference...

And then I tried to move it to the right place but I can't figure out why it is changing shape on me.... getting swished vertically and horizontally as I move it around the frame

Can you explain how they are used?

I don't go through as many avatars as Isaac. And I put up the racquets every year at this time. I'm just a little late doing it this year. :) Maybe it's symbolic of all the rain delays.

What are you doing to try to move it to the right place? I'd use 2D track motion.

Oh...

Yes, move it to the right spot, but it gets wacky with me, and I can't get the feather to appear when I set it...

2D track motion? What's that David?

does the point keep adjusting?

hold CTRL on the keyboard then drag the point around.

2D track motion is the little icon on the track in the timeline that looks like a little blue square. Click that then you can move the video track on the X and Y axis.
