Cutaways in Vegas Platinum 9

I am using Vegas Platinum 9 and trying to cut away from one video clip to another but want the audio from the first clip to keep running as I cut away to the second. I'm lost on how to make this work. Can anyone help? Thank you!

Thank you so much for replying. I feel like a real idiot here, but what is the best way to toggle between the two visuals? I'm not grasping how to make one transparent for a portion of its run while the other is visible.

I'm not sure what you mean -- are you trying to create crossfade? If so, you just push the clips together.

Thank you again, and so sorry, please bear with me, I'm a real novice. I have the two images on two separate tracks and was thinking I could make one track "transparent" while the other track is visible and vice versa. Now that I have the audio split off I've been able to make things work by splitting and deleting a chunk of the main track to create a blank space (like a missing tooth) while the other track is visible. I'm just not sure what the best and most efficient way an experienced person would do this. I'm only using audio from the main track, the second track is visual only.

Oh -- you mean you just want to cut between the two?

You can either have the segment you want visible on the upper track (nothing below it will be visible), or you can cut out segments of what you want to be "transparent" and slide in the video you want to show into those sections.

Or both, really.

Yes, yes, that's it. I'm finding that if I cut to a photo rather than a video and I place the photo on the upper layer, the sides of the main video are visible underneath the photo (the photo image is narrower). So in that case I cut out the portion of the video below the photo and it works fine. Before I had the audio unlinked nothing was working, so thank you again for that, it unlocked the door.

To make the photo the same size as the frame, go into the pan/crop tool, right-click on the frame, and choose "match output size." The frame will then match your project and there will be no bleedthrough. If that's the way you want it, of course.
