Customs refusing to ship batteries

On eBay i purchased two small AA size batteries and a mains charger for roughly $10.
The seller has come back apologising saying customs in China will not allow the shipping of batteries...

His message:

Sorry for your inconvenience.
Our custom will not allow us to send batteries now . How about we issuing a full refund to you ?
If you agree, we will handle it as soon as possible.
Have a great time.

I'm not sure if this a cover story (bullsh*t) or true.

Nah, it happens. Not sure why. Get your refund and buy from somewhere else. Or you could ask them to send via sea mail - that usually works, though takes around 2 months, which is far from ideal.

I just got a package of 24 rechargeable AA batteries from China so it sounds like BS to me. I know that larger batteries with many Ampere might have a hard time to be transported by air but not AA batteries.

Not sure why they would be lying to you if they're offering you a full refund. I'd take it and find another seller.

Oh I know I will get a refund, I suspect he does not have the items in stock and his leadin or waiting time may be a month or two. Its not the first time this has happened to me

When ever I order batteries from B&H Photo in New York I see the following message in my shipping options...

"The USPS shipping option has been removed due to U.S. Postal regulations, we cannot ship items containing lithium batteries to international addresses via Postal Service."

I imagine this might also apply to importing lithium batteries into the US.

So you may have to choose another shipping method or buy non-lithium batteries.
