Customizing Mics

My camera is th Panasonic PV-GS320. It doesn't have external mic capabilities which really pisses me off!! But I am stuck with it and i was just wondering if there is a way to sort of "customize" your mic from inside the camera? Like opening it up and switching out the mic with a better one? Or giving it external capabilities? Has anyone tried? Do you think that it could even be possible? What do you think on it?

Let me know, Thanks!!

That's an interesting idea. I'm no audio expert, but I think that you should be able to rewire the onboard mic to a jack and then plug in an external mic to it.

You might also want to post in the Audio section so those guys can give their input.

Yeah that is a good idea. I am not an audio expert either but i am thinking if i can learn enough about the insides of the camera that this may be possible. (hard! But possible.)

That's a great link, Tigeba. It shows that this is a rather easy modification, imho.

I don't think it's a pointless mod either, because he could easily attach a battery powered rode ntg2 to that socket and get much better sound than before. At the very least, if it allows him to get the new mic a few feet closer to the source of the sound than before, he should see an increase in audio quality.

Failing that, you could always record audio separately and sync it up later. Gets you into the discipline of using a clapperboard and keeping accurate logs.
