Custom workflow on set that is definitely unique

I hope it happens...not b/c they need the money but it's a thing to go back and do/try something again 10-20-30 years later.

Released into the wild--9M views in first 24 hours!

The final result was the processed footage I generated on set in real time, not a post recreation. I love that the Teradek link screen opens and closes the clip! Very fun to have been part of this project.

Add one more view from me. Always appreciate your follow up posts, Charles. Cheers!
And to quote from your original post, that was a kooky, maybe bonkers, workflow to get that look. Gotta say, whether you like it or not, it is certainly a very distinctive look. I know it wouldn't happen, but would love to see the same cuts from the original Venice footage - to compare how drab / un-colorful, they compare.

I love the video and I think the song is excellent.

My only complaint is that the BTS video should have included more footage of Eilish running everything and making all the decisions.

Too many people have the mistaken idea that videos like this are a team effort when in fact all of the creativity and impetus comes from exactly one person.

That's a pretty big call. Even the janitor cleaning the toilets contributes to the end result. And for all we know, having BE appear to be the solo Director could also just be part of a much larger take on branding. I'm sure she has the "final say", but that also includes keeping a lot of people happy, separate to what the artist thinks is the best music.

well, it is officially a self-directed video and there's no other director listed. but maybe it would have been better if she had a collaborator or an independent director

By the way, not to go on a tangent but I'm assuming people have seen her breakout video, Ocean Eyes? I suppose I grade these things on a sliding scale because it was made for no money, but I always thought it was an interesting video:

Sorry I forgot the no one-gets-sarcasm-on-the-internet axiom. It's a cliche of BTS videos that it took the talent and effort of many people to produce the thing, but of course we know this cliche is always the truth. This BTS video definitely doesn't have those vibes.

Perhaps they are deliberately trying to counter possible sexist assumptions from the audience - in the actual 90s it's highly likely (though not certain) that it would have been a team of men making the on-set decisions for the female star. I still found it quite hard to watch though.

I really like the look. It just goes to show that beauty is what you pay attention to and elevate.

Woah that plastic igloo looks great, I've never seen that before. Just saw that it's a Photobubble. Is it hot inside?

It's normal temp---the big stage fans that keep it blown-up keep the air moving in there. Also helps to use all LED lighting now (I forgot how many units but I think it approached 60, both in that big ring on the floor and rigged from above). It was pretty comfortable on stage.

Or perhaps the they is actually a she and it was Eilish directing the BTS edit as well and keeping the focus on herself

I really liked the look, too. Charles kicked ass for them

Thanks. While Arri is adding textures to the Alexa 35 you guys are rigging up a time machine to the Venice. The small body extension (after cable wrangling) always looks like it'd be so much fun to shoot with. I really like that you can see the seams where the bubble wall connects the floor.

I realized I never got around to posting this as a follow-up to this thread. Once I saw all the BTS pictures of Billie and my monitor on her IG (one of which Dustin posted above), I figured I might as well make a post on it. I'd have rather talked about the on-set look process, but I felt this was a safer topic. It's also the first 9:16 Instagram video I've purpose-made (i.e. edited and formatted specifically for that platform).
