Current State of Real Time Monitoring from CS5

A lot of people appear to be building new systems to comply with the switch to CS5 64bit.

I'm currently upgrading to CS5 which means building a 64bit box. Planning on the GTX4700 for a graphics card... SO, I'm wondering what people here are using to monitor and show clients from CS5 timeline.

I'm looking at Black Magic Intensity - Pro (internal card) or Shuttle (USB 3.0) or possibly Matrox MX02 Mini (but I've heard that creates problems. I hear there are new developments with Everything... specifically Blackmagic Design and Fresco Logic on a new USB3 1080 60P playback device.

For SD preview, I have a Sony GVM1311Q monitor, for HD, I've been using the Sony SDM P234 as a Computer monitor AND playback... I'm open to getting a dedicated Program Monitor... Some direction from the group would really be welcome at this point...HELP!!

Blackmagic sent me links to system requirements.

The Blackmagic Shuttle needs an I7 processor with X58 chipset. and the Card
requirements are coming soon.

I spoke with Blackmagic initially with Terry Frechette (the sales guy) and he finally directed me to the tech... Casper Ko was very helpful and sent me the sys requirements for motherboards that work with their products. One thing he said that I would need is a 3.0 USB card. That's what they have been working on with Fresco Logic (September press release) to obtain 1080 60P playback on the shuttle.

I checked with B&H and they don't have a Fresco Logic USB 3.0 card.
I called Fresco Logic US HQ in Oregon 503/533-8900 and spoke with Jin Fan
and he said that the chip hadn't actually been released yet and that they
only make the chip and not the USB card.

He is contacting the people who fabricate the cards to see where I can get
them... He also said that it wouldn't be until the first quarter of next
year. Need to make sure the USB 3.0 card is capable of 1080 60P.
It seems to be a very recent development in partnership between Blackmagic and Fresco Logic...

Is this correct, or is there a 3.0 USB controller that will work with the shuttle to monitor 1080 60P that is currently available

Why don´t you get the Intensity - Pro (internal card) and skip all that USB 3 stuff?
I run it since it came out and it works like a charm.

I only have experience with low-end USB video solutions, and they were problematic. I don't recommend them.

If you're going with a GTX 470, most come with 2-3 video outs (typically 2 DVI 1 HDMI) what's wrong with using one of those?

Thanks for taking the time to respond... The tech at Black Magic, Kasper Ko said that the USB was the newer one and it was the one that would do the 1080 60P...
Apart from that, I have my workstation in the next room (it is LOUD!)... so he recommended running the regular USB and then extending my HDMI and DVI cables.... Right now, I am running a 25' DVI to my monitor and USB wireless keyboard. When I was using Avid Liquid, I was running a USB to their break out box here in the edit room with me... that is now a paperweight, but I am planning on doing sort of the same thing with the Shuttle BOB in the same place... (hopefully not the paperweight thing...) at least for a while.

I guess I'll bump my own thread...
After researching, I ordered the MSI GTX 4700 (the one with the double fans) and it has two DVI and one HDMI out.

I guess I could try to come out of that into the second monitor I just got. It has VGA, DVI, and HDMI inputs. I'm not sure if this will be color accurate or pixel to pixel full res... the monitor will do 1080 X 1928.

So, are graphics cards and break out boxes like Black Magic and Matrox now obsolete with the Mercury playback in CS5 and the new graphics cards??
