Just became curious about a specific question and wondered if anyone or Timur can help me out.
Can cameras like HDW f950 or varicam with their specialized lenses such as Primo Digital lenses that were used for STARWARS be compared to the performance of a 35mm cinema lens or that of RED's performance with a simple SLR 35mm lens?
Or are they a different breed altogether?
I had always thought that somehow cinema lenses were able to stick onto these 24p cameras on their bayonets or tailored to do so somehow- because the lenses were so big in those BTS photos.... but I guess I was ignorant.
And that made me wonder- at first- why a ground glass and all the vibrating was necessary.
But I did wonder why all the new STARWARS films had these video-ish, flat look to them. Something wasn't right. And it wasn't just because it was digital.
So without these adapters, is there no other way of using 35mm optics onto 1/3 or 2/3 chips and get the "35 look" - unless you had one of the many digital cinema cams out today (RED, Genesis, Arri-D) that have 35mm sensors?
i may have gotten my info all jumbled.... still learning I guess.
sorry. it's a frustrating question.
thanks in advance.
