Curious about the robustness of Davinci Resolve v.s. Premiere Pro

I've lost many hours of editing to Adobe Premiere's constant crashing. It's a very poor piece of software and is becoming increasingly frustrating to use.

I'm curious if anyone with a similar experience with Adobe Premiere switched over to Resolve and had a much more pleasant experience.

How can you lose many hours of editing due to a crash?

Both programs have an autosave option!
It is ludicrous not to use autosave or frequent manual saves and wait for a crash to happen.

I used both tools and both do crash once in awhile, you can't stop an occasional crash, but you should mitigate the damage by using autosave or frequent manual saves.

I don't personally notice all that many crashes with Premiere Pro. I mean, it crashes sometimes, but not at a rate much higher than other common NLEs these days. That's just anecdotal, though. YMMV and everything.

But what seems to cause your crashing? Which version of Premiere Pro are you running, and on what hardware and OS are you working?

Autosave is enabled by default, and I've used it before but sometimes it doesn't run. Here's an example from this morning. I made a 20 minute edit, and exported immediately, the export crashed, which then lead to adobe crashing. Auto-save doesn't run during an export, so I lost all my work. Auto-save is a band aid on a gunshot wound, it's not a real solution. That doesn't mean I don't use it.

I get a lot of crashes when I click "File>Import" or using the shorthand of double clicking on a bin window, before the explorer window even pops up. The rest of the majority of my errors occur while I'm doing some misc. form of editing. Afaik, I'm running the latest and greatest version of Premiere Pro CC. I'm running it on Windows 10 with a Intel 6700K, a GTX 1070, 16GB of RAM, a SATA SSD scratch disk of 500GB, and my main OS drive is a 120GB NVME SSD.

I have a windows system and I used Premiere Pro CC, it crashed a lot, and after each update it crashed again. Started with Dacinci Resolve 11 with dongle and that crashed less, each new version became more stable. Now that I have version 14.01 I am happy, untill now no crashes at all.
My system WIN 10 i7 5820K 3,3ghz, 32 mb RAM 2x 250GB cache and 6TB HDD and a Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4K for 4K screen, and 2x dell ultrasharp monitors. GeForce GTX 970, ASUS 99 motherboard.

It is unconscionable that Adobe produces such brittle software given the revenue they enjoy with their subscriptions. I stopped my subscription and rely on Davinci Resolve. So far so good. After months, I don't miss it. I do have a perpetual CS6 subscription and still have that for Photoshop and some After Effects. I am learning Fusion and I think I won't need that much longer either.

off topic but while we're here...

someone swore up and down you can get boxed/nonsubscription products of adobe stuff newer than CS6. a google search left me no reason to believe this person was anything other than totally full of sheeyit. Anyone know any differently?

I left all Adobe products behind except for Photoshop CS6. I had nothing but crashes, didn't matter if it was on Windows or Mac. I use Avid for most of my work now, but still bring the edits to Resolve for finishing. Haven't had a single crash. I'll also edit in Resolve for quick YouTube videos when I don't want to transcode, but anything narrative gets cut in Avid. At work, we've switched to Resolve (working on 4 feature length docs) and it's been great. Much better than Premiere.

Thanks for the response. I'm quite a big fan of Adobe Audition, but it has lots of stability issues as well. What do you use for your audio needs? Applying compression, loudness normalization, EQing, and hard limiting is pretty much all I do in post w/audio.

I used audacity but now Resolve has 'Fairlight' build in for audio since version 14. Resolve comes without plugins but with some (free) fx you can add compressor, limitter etc. Just downloaded some plugins, works nice. Loudmax VST: https://loudmax.blogspot.nl/

Pro Tools for audio. It's easy to send the timeline over from Media Composer. You could probably get away with the Fairlight tab in Resolve though. I do VFX in Nuke as my AE replacement too. I can send things around between the four apps seamlessly and never had issues, plus I haven't had a single crash since switching.
