Hello and Good evenin,

Quick question- Does a Final Cut Pro 3 academic version qualify for the crossgrade program? I just squeezed out of my soul over a grand to buy myself FCP5 and found out my litl sis' has FCP3. Its an academic version and she doesnt need it. Anyone care to enlighten or humor me?

If I am not mistaken, academic versions are not upgradeable so it looks like you didn't waste your money after all.

academic versions FCP 4, 4.5, and 5.0 were the only ones allowed to crossgrade... FCP3 is out of luck...

There was a restriction on not cross-grading Academic versions at first. Apple changed that since. FCP 3? Lord, don't bother...

there was never any restriction on crossgrading academic licenses for version 4, 4.5, and 5... Apple doesn't allow upgrades for academic software. By using the term crossgrade, they were able to allow academic users to get the universal binary of FCP without going back on their no upgrade policy.

I've done many Academic upgrades over the years...
When first announced, there was a big stink over Apple not allowing Academic versions to cross-grade to 5.1, they shortly did, in fact, change that.
