CTO with tungsten lighting interior during day

So from what I read putting CTB on my 1k mole richardson baby solarspot will cut the light in half......I guess I need sheets of CTO to cover outside windows for two interior shots for a commercial Im doing.....For shooting during mid day do you use a full, 1/2, or 1/4 and where is a good place to buy sheets of it to cover a whole window...I just have one of those beginner gel kits that clip on barndoors...any other advice for shooting during the day near windows....and yes It has to be near windows.....Could I set a lamp outside and project the tungsten light in or will the color temps still be distracting in the shot...thanks so much
 
The Lee and Rosco CTO and CTO+ND are available in sheets (20x25 or 20x24 for Rosco) half rolls and rolls if you're doing bigger windows. The gel can be adhered to clean glass with a mixture of water and liquid Dawn (about one drop per squirt bottle of water).
 
Bouncing tungsten light into Roscoflex silver/blue is also a nice way to cool a light without cutting it at the source.

Be warned, though: gelling a window with grades of CTO to match your interior light will not always work, even if you white balance for tungsten. Sunlight is warm, and skylight is very cool. The time of day and the orientation of your window will all play into the color temperature of the light coming through, and it will likely change over the course of the shoot.

Also, as a stylistic point, it's commonly understood by the viewer that interior lights are warm, so clipping 1/4 CTO on your 1K's may be all that is needed to generate a realistic look.

Your intentions, though, may be otherwise and require completely balanced light. In this case, it is best to get your hands on as many grades of gels as possible, including some ND or blackscrim for the windows.
 
thanks i re-looked at the budget and decided to buy another bulb for my third 1k and some photofloods....I got ctb so even though its not recommend and Im playing with the electrical bill....I think I can light interior day with ctb until I got another job and budget in a kinoflow......thanks again
