I'm almost afraid to bring this one up. The screenings are very limited, but I would definately check it out if you get the opportunity.

The movie is presented as if it were a "BBC" documentary on the Confederate States of America. It is framed 4:3 and comes complete with commercials which add to to the feeling you are watching a made for television documentary and not a "movie"

The basic premise is that the Union lost the US Civil War, and the resulting documentary shows what the resulting nation might be like for the next 150 years.

I can honestly say I have never been more uncomfortable watching a movie. I found myself thinking "Hey that was funny..can I really laugh at that?" a LOT. Surprisingly (for me) I didn't find this movie overtly political, nor did I feel that there was an attempt to ram some particular message down the viewers throat.

I think this movie technically came out a couple of years ago, but it just now seems to be generally available for viewing. Hopefully this has not already been discussed previously.

edit: Added IMDB link.

saw this at the IFC center a two weeks ago. i was really looking forward to the movie from last year when i heard about it.

i was honestly underwhelmed, but nontheless i enjoyed it. there were certain parts that were great, the re-contextualizing of JFK's speech was really interesting.

sorta makes you think twice about what you believe in these docs... anything can be made to seem like complete fact.

good movie, but not earthshattering
