CS6 Upgrade Path?

Hi all,

Quick question: is the earliest version of Premiere eligible for upgrade to CS6 CS3? I'm asking because I own a version of Premiere from way back, and I was looking to upgrade to CS6 when it comes out, but if that's the case, I guess I had better upgrade to 5.5 while I still can.

I was at a resellers launch last week and Adobe South Africa told us that some products like PPRo2 you will still be able to upgrade if you own older versions and was not effected , you could up grade no problem, also this was stated in and PDF DOC " Still using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, CS3, or CS2? For those still using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, CS3, or CS2, upgrading to Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
also gives you the chance to catch up on all the great features added in later releases," But when you go to the Adobe web Page and look at the up grade path they start only at CS3 . I have emailed ADOBE SA to clear up this info , once i get the feed back i will let you guys know.

Adobe really stepped up the deals on CS5 and CS5.5 upgrades and continue to do so with CS6. The Production Premium is a must have bundle now more than ever with the seamless integration of Photoshop and After Effects inside Premier Pro. I spent an hour and a half at the Adobe theatre at NAB watching demos and I cant wait to get my copy. Yesterday I bought the upgrade from Videoguys for $359 no tax or shipping. It’s the download version. Great deal.

I am a bit upset with Adobe , as some of my older customers still use Premiere Pro CS2 and have not needed to upgrade due to them still shooting and editing dv and HDV only, they felt there was not need, but this year most of them woke up and want to upgrade to CS6. But it seems Adobe not sure how their up grades want to work, as at the resellers launch and in PDF's doc's they gave out you could upgrade from any PPro version, this stopped at CS5.5 . You can only do a upgrade from CS3 to CS6 now.

Adobe is trying to get anyone and everyone they can to sign up for Creative Cloud, so their upgrades are not as competitive. Gone are the days of 20-30% discounts on upgrade licenses through resellers.

If your customers really want to upgrade from CS2 to CS6 (without going the Creative Cloud route) your best option would probably be to buy a CS2 to CS5.5 upgrade in tandem with a CS5.5 to CS6 upgrade license.

You can get the Production Premium CS2-CS5.5 and CS5.5-CS6 upgrades together for a total of about $1175 at SoftwareMedia - which is quite a bit cheaper than the $1899 MSRP you'd pay through Adobe.
