CS6 not exporting at 16/32 bits?

I just downloaded a trial of Premiere CS6 for PC and played a bit with the program. After applying some heavy grading (32bits RGB curves) the preview window shows posterized gradients. I did set up the sequence to maximum bit depth but still the preview shows posterized images. So this is bad.

Now when trying to export the footage I get the following (bit depth and render quality always set to max):

- if I render QT or AVI files in any format, the video shows posterization, no matter the codec (even 10bit uncompressed or blackmagic RGB 10bit)
- if I render AVI Uncompressed (not to confuse with AVI, from the drop down menu) the video looks fine. no posterization!
- if I render in any image file format sequence (dpx, tif, bmp, targa, even jpg!) the frames look fine too, no posterization

What´s going on here?

Would need to see your settings.

eg Source and Program Monitor Settings (1/, 1/2, full), Export settings ( Use Sequence settings unchecked?)
.
Knowing your source footage and the Project settings would also be helpful.

I don´t think you guys are reading the entire thread.
JPG is the worst format of all and shows no artifacts.

Actually..I read the entire thread and you said "the preview window shows posterized gradients".

I followed with questions directly related to setting up the Preview Monitors and you failed to answer that.

You also failed to answer the other questions ... but I did drop some hints. eg export settings

Whatever..your issue is O.E .

Forget about the preview window (but in case you care, I tried all combinations possible showing no difference. Right now it's set at full res, higher bit depth and maximum quality).

What matters in the end is the output.

The source file is prores. The files look fine in AE, so it's not the footage. The problem is the way Premiere gets the QT decoded which also seems to be affected by the format you output. Again, choosing a high quality video codec (whether avi or qt), such as blackmagic 10bit 444, shows artifacts. But choosing any image file format, no matter if it´s a crappy jpg or 8 bit targa shows no problems.

Targa is also capable of higher bit depths like 16 and 32. So it would make sense that you see less banding than a 10 bit export.

If everything fails, import the project in AE, put it on 32bit floating point and dial in the color space you need.
Than export from there. Was done that way with Avatar and Dragon Tattoo, should do the trick for you.
