[CS5 Workflow] - re-using intro/outtro sequences in multiple projects, etc

Hi all- A user coming from Vegas over to Premiere Pro CS5 - really liking the Mercury playback with my 7D footage on the PC I just built (24GB DDR3 RAM, i7 950 3.0GHZ, GTS 450, ...).

Some questions about pulling media off cards and organizing projects that are related:

I am going to be working on a series of related videos with a hierarchy something like this:

1. Phase I
a. Video 1
b. Video 2
c. …
d. Video (n)

2. Phase II
a. Video 1
b. Video 2
c. …
d. Video (n)

For each phase, the same intro/outtro sequence is used.

The video timeline looks something like this:
Intro (per-phase)
Guts of specific video
Outtro (per-phase or same)

For the the “guts” of each video I have the following (separate folders):
· Video clips (.MOV and .THH files from 7D)
· Off-camera sound clips (.WAV)
· Stills (JPEG and RAW)

How would you organize media for this type of long-term project, and re-use sequences.

Thanks very much,
Gavin

I like to keep things in the same project. Create the bookend sequences to be reused, and then a new middle sequence for each project.

I create lots of bins, and bins within bins to organize everything. When little or no overlap in using the same assets, Video 1 might have its own bins for clips, stills, audio (w/ music, v/o, sfx sub-bins), graphics, titles, etc. Video 2, the same set of bins. When you have trouble finding something but know it's name, Premiere's search feature is great. Just remember to clear the search term as soon as you're done with it or nothing else will show.

It's simple to reuse sequences. Just create a separate timeline/sequence for each intro & outro and any other module that you reuse. Then that sequence is treated as a video clip that you drag onto each video's timeline. It's called "nesting" sequences.

Thanks guys, I'll try the nested sequences. I had a case and power supply, so I was able to build the PC for about $1200.
