CS4 & Magic Bullet Looks Problem

Hi There!

Configuration:
Mainboard: ASUS P5K-E
CPU: Intel Quad Q9440 2.6Ghz
RAM: 4GB DDR2
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD5830
OS: Windows XP SP3
Codec: K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 5.9

I am using Adobe Premiere CS4 and Magic Bullet Looks 1.2 for color correction. I had a problem few days ago and couldn’t find why its happening. Would like to get some opinions from you?

I shot some 1080p footage with DVCProHD codec which is around 7 min. and created a demo video clip out of it. When I finished the processing, I let it to render. It finished rendering without any problems. However, when use magic bullet looks to correct the colors and render again, render get stuck always at the same place and program is not responding afterwards.

Additionally, not in this project but in some other projects I had problems with magic bullet looks. When I correct the colors using magic bullet and export it, media encoder also stucks at the middle of the process and leaves me uncompleted work. When I checked the logs, I saw an unknow error. When I don’t use magic bullet looks and render the project and export it, no problem comes up.

Some said its because of the mainboard, some said cpu and some said its because of the codec I am using. I need your help.

Thanks in advance

I'm curious about something.Does the CPU or RAM use during rendering?

I know something is going wrong.I renew my graphics card but didn't improve.I think the problem is RAM,CPU,Mainboard or something else.

This may or may not help but I thought I'd give it a try...

I just resolved this exact issue yesterday. Editing with 720p footage exporting using Premiere CS4 and Magic Bullet Looks 1.2 outputting to h.264 Media Encoder would fail halfway through the process for a 2:30min project. When I disable Looks from the project it completed without error. I tried to remove clips, disable Looks on half of project, etc. with no positive outcome...Logs would report Unknown error.

My settings (including Codec) matched this one:
http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2007/12/08/exporting-with-adobe-premiere-in-720p/

I was running a Intel E5300 2.6 Dual Core, Asus Board, 2GB RAM, Windows XP SP3, ATI 4350HD.

I resolved this by upgrading my power supply to a Cosair 650w and my video card to a GeForce GTX 260.

The completion time for encoding was cut in half and I no longer have any issues.

I took this upgrade route after seeing the requirements for CS5 and Adobe's love for NVidia and CUDA.

Your configuration out performs what I am using and the 5830 is a great card (may even out perform the GTX260) but I thought I'd share my experience.

harvey digital, you may want to think about returning the GTX260 if you can. The GTX285 is the only GTX approved for hardware acceleration with MPE in CS5. You will get software acceleration still, but I have read that it is no where near the performance increase as the hardware acceleration is.

Wildfly, great point and I was originally shooting for the 285 since the 260 isn't listed on the Adobe CS5 site but the 285 was not in stock last night. I wasn't 100% sure that a new vid card and power supply would be the fix with my current configuration but it definitely did...

I plan to return the 260 for the 285 and begin a upgrade process to Win 7, i7, etc.

I also completely agree that in mostly all cases hardware acceleration beats software...

Thanks for the suggestion!

Looks like there is a similar discussion going on in another thread:

I understand that CS5 is a different than previous version but:

Bugra, there is a mention of Intel with Nvidia and AMD with ATI....I wonder if that's something that I experienced. I can say that I have better performance with my GTX260 over my low-end ATI...but that's not a fair comparison since it was a low end card compared to yours. Just a thought!

First of all, thank you for your interest and relevance.A computer company has solved my problem;Vatan Computer in İstanbul/Turkey.

I solved this problem by upgrading my computer.

Configuration:
Mainboard: GIGABYTYE X58A-UD7
CPU: Intel Core i7-930
RAM: Kingston Hyper-X 6 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD5830
OS: Windows 7 64Bit

I forgot to add input to the original question. I had issues with MB Looks when I had the Windows Update provided driver installed instead of the one straight from Nvidia. Might be similar with ATI cards too? Once I used the Nvidia driver, it worked fine and all the funky issues with MB Looks went away.
