CS4 best rendering HD to SD for DVD?

I've got a 20 minute long project inside of AE CS4. It is 1080P 30P, and I need to get it onto a DVD. I've had issues before in the past exporting in premiere to mpeg2 where the quality wasn't very good. What is the best practice for exporting this footage to make a good looking SD DVD?

Probably too late to help, but here is what I've done in the past when going to dvd:

1. Export the video in a lossless format.
2. Let the dvd authoring software transcode the video, as best fits the DVD project.

that usually works for me.
