When I start a new composition in After Effects CS3, for some reason the comp window appears red instead of black. There are no layers in the comp. How to I get it to be black???

But what I think he is saying, is that he doesn't want to have to change it to Black everytime. He wants it perminant. Am i right?

I'm glad that johnlabonney figured it out. Ctrl+Shift+B activates the background select thing with the dropper.

If you change the background once to "whatever" color, then the new compositions will default to that "whatever" color.

Simply change the background to black and then all new compostions there after will have a black background untill you change the background again.

Permanent is not really a good thing for AfterEffects. Imagine not being able to change anything. I think at times white makes a good contrasting background. And at times green will be appropriate.

Preserve should be a better word to explain the no change background issue.

I hope that I have made sense in explaining.

I agree, what I was trying to do is get the background to "default" to black. I was using After Effects, Encore, and Soundbooth all at the same time, and somehow when switching between these applications I accidentally reset the background in After Effects to red, and couldn't figure out how I did it. I agree that there are times when other settings would be appropriate.
