CS3 - Export to P2

Hey guys,

I shot a quick scene in HD (720 / 24n) on the HVX200a... and cut it in PP CS3.

I don't have a blu-ray burner just yet, and wanted to view the edited scene on my TV... and was hoping I could use the 'export to p2' function to send it back to the HVX, and then be able to view it as a clip within the HVX (and thus be able to see it on my hdtv).

I can see the file within the folder with other video clips when viewing the p2 card's contents with my laptop... but its not showing up on the HVX's clip menu.

I guess the short version is: Is there a way to export my HD clip from CS3 back to my HVX's P2 card, so I can use the camera to view the edited clip?

What do you mean, it's not showing up in the HVX's clip menu?

If you have a card connected to your system, you can replace its folders with the Contents folder created by Premiere; you can do this in Wndows Explorer. Or better, you can use P2 Viewer to move the clip to that card.

However, if you replace the Contents folder, you'll have to delete the LastClip.txt file which is on the card, because it won't match.

David: yes, exactly. It's not showing up in the clip menu.

How would I go about using P2 viewer to do this? When in the viewer, the only way to view my p2 card that I could figure out was to set it up as a 'virtual p2 card'. Is this because I'm connected via USB? (the P2 card is still in the HVX)

But I don't get why you'd think it would show up on the HVX if it's not on the P2 card.

If you have your active card in one window and a virtual card in the other window, you can transfer clips back and forth by dragging.

It already IS on the P2 card... you can see it when using windows explorer. But when I load up the HVX's clip menu, that clip is nowhere to be found.

P2 viewer won't recognize any files in the folder that is already on my Hard Drive... but it will recognize the P2 Card (that is loaded in the HVX) if I call it a 'virtual P2 card'.

For instance, if I choose 'All P2 Cards" I never see anything at all. If I point the program to my P2 Card by calling it 'virtual', then it loads up fine.

I created a folder on my desktop with only a single MXF in it (the file created by Premiere). When I point the P2 Viewer to "folder A" on my desktop by calling it a 'virtual card', then I see nothing.

Maybe something is screwy and I need to format the P2 card.

Thanks for the quick responses, David... glad to get some help!

THat should work. If you see the MXF file in the folder, it should bring up something.

What happens if you take that MXF file and put it on the timeline in Premiere?

David

I do not have an option of "Export to P2" within my CS3 application.

So how do i create a "Contents" folder and a LastClips.txt from my sequence and copy it to my P2?

Let me know. Even i dont have a Blu-ray player, so would like to watch it off my HVX.

Thank you

In CS3, the only app which has the option is Premiere, and then only if you're using version 3.1 or later (the updates are free). What app are you trying to use?

David, i am using PP CS3. And in the Export section... i have choice of Frame, Movie, Export to Tape, Export to EDL....

Am i missing any patch?

You should see:

Movie

Frame

Audio

Title

(line)

Export to Panasonic P2

If you don't, you may not have the appropriate updates. You're using v. 3.1 or later?

Here's my Version 3.1.1 (374)

I see all options listed above except Export to Panasonic P2.

What might i be missing?

Don't know. If you can edit the MXFs directly, you should see it.

However, you might try updating to 3.2 to see if it helps.

ok, i'll look it up. Thanks.

It's odd that i can import and edit MXF directly but cannot see that export option.

Thanks again
