I'm planning to buy a MacPro 4-core with 1GB RAM from Apple and buy an additional 4GB RAM from Crucial.com.
But when I used Crucial's Advisor Tool to see what they sell for a MacPro, the RAM listed was not DDR2 FB-DIMM but DDR2 PC2-5300. Is this a problem? It's my understanding that FB-DIMM RAM is the rather expensive component required for the MacPro. Doing a search of "FB-DIMM" on the Crucial site brings up zero results.
Crucial comes highly recommended so I can't imagine they'd guarantee the wrong kind of RAM.
So is FB-DIMM required or not?
---Okay so Crucial does talk about FB-DIMMs (which it calls FBDIMMs) They want $395 for 4GB. Other World Computing charges $249 for 4GB. Resellerratings.com has some negative input about OWC. Anyone care to recommend OWC or Crucial?
