Croziel or Cavision for 16:9

I'm about to leap into the DVX-100 (PAL) with the whole kit.
Question is I'm going for 16:9 and so far I've looked at the Croziel matte box and apart from having to machine the sunshade it look pretty good. The follow focus unit also looks like it'll be pretty solid also.

Bear in mind I'm not just buying this for myself but also to hire out so the kit needs to be robust.

I'm also looking at the Cavision kit but two question come to mind.
Firstly does their matte box work with the 16:9 at all, does it need mods to the lens?
Secondly how robust is the Cavision gear compared to Croziel?
If it was just for my use I'd immediately go for the Cavision.
One of the main reasons for sticking rods and matte box on the camera is to protect the 16:9 adaptor.

Also anyone have any input on the 100 Vs 100A, from my brief read of the specs I don't see anything new in the 100A that a serious user should be using anyway if you get my drift.

Re: Croziel or Cavision for 16:9

biggest thing on the new A is the incresed DSP and the gamma modes.. a few things like the rib around the scene button as well is very good.

As for the mattebox.. the cro seems so boring compared to the Cavision.. The Cavision carbon fibre rods are just damn cool.

Re: Croziel or Cavision for 16:9

I'd agree the Cavision is a way cooler setup but...will it work with the 16:9?

I've emailed Cavision on this, just waiting for a reply.

That is the problem, it will be interesting on thier response.

Re: Croziel or Cavision for 16:9

I seriously doubt that Cavision can accept an anamorphic lens. If they do, then I'll stand corrected.

Re: Croziel or Cavision for 16:9

I already contacted Cavision about this some time back, and unless they made changes to their current matte box offerings, they do not accept the Panasonic anamorphic lens.

I'd go for the Chrosziel option if I were you, and if I needed 16:9 plus a matte box. With side wings as well, they can give the Cavision model a run for its money in looks. Check it out by clicking on this link: here

Re: Croziel or Cavision for 16:9

One thing I have learnt, 16:9 and side wings isn't viable.
DVX100 already has a WIDE lens, add the 16:9 makes it capable of going extemely wide. I'd suggest it'll probably be wider than it'd be wise to be going in most situation, having so much fine detail in a very wide shot will really expose the limitations of DV.

Re: Croziel or Cavision for 16:9

Just got a reply from Cavision:

Thank you for your interest in Cavision's products. Our matte box has a round back mount, while the Anamorphic adapter has a rectangular shape to it, this will not allow the matte box to be used with the anamorphic adapter. For our follow focus we do not have a gear designed for the DVX-100. We are in the process of developing one and hope to have one available some time in the new year. The price is $695.00.

Looks like it's the Cro!

Re: Croziel or Cavision for 16:9

I bought the Chrosziel DVmattbox setup a few weeks back and finally got the courage to hack off the 12mm from the anamorphic lens last night - not as tricky as you would think if youve got a steady hand!

The Chrosziel now fits perfectly around the anamorphic lens without any intrusion at wide angle and gives the image a crisper look - as well as looking kinda cool and professional.

So I would recommend the Chrosziel option - if you can afford the inflated price (about the cost of a 4 bedroom house in the UK)
