Crowd funding if your goal isn't met?

Oh yeah, Cary. The music project you cite, I think that music is already in the public domain.
The composition is in the pubic domain however the performance and recording was dedicated to Creative Commons 0.

Performances and recordings of classical works, even if the compositions are in the public domain, are subject to copyright law.

Ok, just to follow through, what if a composer licensed music to a film. Would they need to forfeit their copyright to the Creative Commons given your assertion (i.e the music composition, not the performance, is not in the public domain?)

That would depend on the how the composer wants to licenses the music and on the type of Creative Commons license, obviously they would have to be compatible.
