crosshairs

Hello. Anyone know where/how I can get a crosshairs plugin that simulates a sniper's rifle? I'm editing on Final Cut Express. Thanks.

Do you have PS?

John,
OK, I'm having some trouble superimposing the crosshairs over my footage. I've never done this before and am trying to figure it through trial and error. This is what I've done so far:
1. I imported the crosshairs as a photoshop file into the FCX browser
2. I superimposed the crosshairs onto my footage.
3. I wireframed it and adjusted the size to fit the footage.
4. I navigated to Composite Mode under the Modify menu in FCX and tried all the available settings (e.g. Normal, Add, Subtract, Difference, etc.) The Darken setting seems to work thebest but am still seeing the checkerboard background.

I know I'm missing something. Thanks again for all your help.

no, no ,no ,no ......

You need to make your own version in photoshop in order to preserve the transparency. Checkbox just shows the area that is masked/emty.

Export it as Photoshop file or layered Tif... or anything that will preserve transparency and Bob's your uncle. FCP accepts .psd files and I guess express will too.

The way I do stuff like this is I start out with a screen grab from a solid green screen which is in Vegas under media generators. Than I take that green screen into photoshop and put whatever I want on it like graphics, crosshairs, binoculars... Than take it back as a jpeg into vegas and lay it over the video and chroma key it out. Works good. Im not sure if final cut express has a similar green screen that you can mess with.

if you're inPhotoshop already just create an alpha channel (save selection) and save it in Photoshop format (or some format that saves the alpha). Don't save it as JPEG.
In most editors this allows you just to layer it and tell it to use the alpha channel.
Pulling a key in your editor because the still has green or blue means that it takes extra processing power and time every time you ru nthrough the clip and your edges may not be as clean compared to a pre-created alpha channel.

I don't even use an alpha channel (unless it does so automatically..?).

The transparency is carried in the layer data (isn't it..?) So as long as you export as a layered file, eg psd or tif etc, then FCP will just superimpose it over with transparency and all. Very easy, no need to muck around with green screening.
