Mr. Hollywood
Everone interested in upgrading to Final Cut Studio 5.1 using Apple's Crossgrade should not waste any time as the POSTMARK deadline is quickly approaching.

The deadline to have your disks and order postmarked by is:

It's an easy process and a good deal.

Crap, I need to get on this. I have a standalone copy of Motion at home and need to take advantage of getting the whole package for another measly $200. Thank you for the reminder!

I have FCP Studio 5 and am wondering what is the difference for me in getting the upgrade? It looks like to upgrade to 5.1 its only $50 - which sounds worth it in the scheme of things, but just wondering how this will affect me going forward.

FYI, I'm working on an iMac 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 (2 GB Ram) - not sure if this matters but if the upgrade only helps with the intels then I wouldn't need it, but if its all around then I'd want it.

thanks.

oh and also -

Blaine, good looking out for us all. Not only the original post but the follow up, thats real thoughtful considering its just goodness of your heart to do that.

You want the upgrade if you have any potential for using a host of newer cameras. The HVX 200 support for example got a major upgrade in FCP 5.1.2. I can't remember the list, but also in that release a bunch of support for other cameras also got added. So while you might not need the upgrade to accomplish some of the same editing ah techniques you're using right now, you might need to be able to ingest footage from certain cameras.

cheers.

Also, my understanding is that ALL future upgrades need the new software.

So even if there's just bug fixes, you'll need the new 5.1 software in order to upgrade.

March 19, 2007 is now the final mailing date. Anyone who missed mailing out today (me) now has an extended period of time. I had a feeling Apple would extend the time frame again (I know they did it at least once already... maybe twice). Anyway, I need to stop being lazy about it, but good news to everyone who weren't able to get it sent out yet.
