Crossfade fading from black

I am in the final process of color correcting a short using Magic Bullet Editors. I have a clip on a higher track that I am using that i had fading in over an item on a lower track. Today, the fade is no longer working the same as yesterday! The fade in (accomplished by grabing the fade in on the upper corner of the clip) now cuts to black and then fades in from there. I can fix this by adding a track opacity, but it was just working.

Ive checked for a setting that might have changed, but haven't found anything yet.

Looks like it is related to adding the Magic Bullet Editor on the track. Why is that?
