Cross Your Fingers

Rebel with a cause
In the next few weeks my short video, "The Loner", will be submitted to numerous film festivals across the US and abroad. My chances are VERY slim, but (much like the lottery) you can't win if you don't play.

Here is what the kit and dvd look like. Inside the folder is a description of the video, the people, and some glossy photos. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am not sure about film festivals rules about internet viewing. Should I remove the download links on my website? I don't want to be disqualified. If you have film festival experience, please give me the 411 on what to do and what not to do. Does providing cash, bribes, or hookers help your chances?

Thanks!
PK

Cash, bribes and hookers always help with me, but I'm not involved in any film festival judging. Your pack looks awesome. Good luck!

Cool! Presentation is always a plus when submitting to festivals. But then again there's always those "ones" who just don't give a rats ass on how well packaged your film is. I think it looks cool. Sweet & simple! I may suggest a hard case DVD cover just to make sure it dosent get damaged in the mailing process. As far as I know a mokey or an elephant may step on it. I don't know about the internet viewing thing. Some filmfestivals will tell you on their submission forms. Good luck bro!

You gotsta keep us posted on things as you hear back from them. No matter what, you're a winner with us! :)

Apply to foreign festivals. From what I hear a lot of foreign festivals are free, and it's also instant prestige. Good luck.

Today my documentary Sipho and Joyce screened at the Boston International Film Festival. It was a pretty nerve wracking experience. Sitting there with an audience watching. Of course I was picking apart my own film. It was very well received and the Q and A was fun. Good luck PK.

I know some festivals don't accept entries which have been on the web... to their knowledge...hehehe...

I am sure that others don't care.

I love the story, and it's very well put together. I think you have a great shot at winning! Good luck, PK!! :)

I agree with Blue on the cd case but it looks like it may be in a clear one inside the bubble wrap. Best of luck PK, It's certainly deserves to win something somewhere in my books.

Can you please give some examples of such foreign festivals? Do you mean outside of the US?

I mean outside the US. There's plenty of them listed on Withoutabox that are free to apply to. I mention it because even when applying to a festival with an early fee, you'll be spending about 35-40 bucks per festival. You figure that for every ten festivals you apply to you might be accepted to 1 or 2. (And that's pretty good) If you apply to ten festivals, that's 350 bucks right there, not to mention the money spent on your materials, it gets pricey.

Good luck P.K. a good pack can get you noticed and yours looks slick. I just hope the films as good...hehe...keep us posted.

Wow, thanks everyone.

Blue - Mino's eyes don't lie. The DVD is inside a slim plastic CD case. The black cases are overkill and take up valuable envelope space.

Isaac - That's great, man! Why didn't you tells us about this sooner? Memebers should share improtant news like this; finished projects, festival screenings, sex with hot models. :) When will you know the results? Good luck!

Can't find any of the free festivals. Then again I'm looking at current "call for entries". Maybe there are some free ones further down the timeline. Hope so! This is getting expensive and all the helmet money has been spent on dinners and hookers. Wait, if I stop taking the hookers to dinner first, I can save a few bucks! hehehehehe
